Meow

Happy Wednesday!  Kristina Hein here today with my very last design team post for Dies R Us!  I have had such a blast being on this team.  I'm going to miss it!  *Sniff*  I'll try not to be sad so let's get to my card!

I bought this adorable Peek a Boo Kitty die and I just knew I needed to make a fall card with it!  I do want to mention that there are several different Peek a Boo dies available in the Dies R Us store.  I definitely need to add more to my collection!

I started by die cutting the patterned paper with the Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Rectangles dies.

You might be able to see some of the pencil lines that I made to use as reference points for my die placement.  I cut the cat die out three times as well as the word Meow.

Next I cut the letters out again from a black patterned paper and the cats out of colored cardstock.  I then glued die cut patterned background pieces into the colored cardstock cat frames.

Now I started building up the card.  I glued the patterned paper rectangle onto a black card base.  I glued in the black letters.  I added foam tape to the back of the kitty pieces and fit them into the die cut spots.

For the finishing touches I added some coordinating sequins.  It was a pretty quick card to put together!

When it was done I realized I had enough leftover pieces to make a second card.  So here it is!

This one went together even quicker because I didn't do any inlaid diecutting.  Everything is just glued in place!  For this card I used Stickles as my finishing accents.  They are much more vibrant in real life.

You should come on over and check out all of our great links!

I want to thank everyone at Dies R Us for letting me be a member of the team!

Flippin' Fall

Hello again my friends!  Kristina Hein with you today to share some fall love.  I know it isn't actually fall yet but it sure has felt like it outside lately!  I'm sure the summer heat will return with a vengance.  Let's get to my card!

I recently bought the Karen Burniston Triple Flip die.  I always love the dies that they create and this one is a heck of a lot of fun to use.  I won't get into the details on how to construct the card basics because you can watch the fabulous videos that Karen releases with all of her dies.

I started by cutting an A2, side fold landscape card base out of dark brown cardstock.  Then I cut a sheet of fall patterned paper to 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".  I then took the main die that creates the slots and ran it through with the patterned paper.  I held it in place on the card base so I could fit the half circle die in just the right spot.  I ran the card base through my die cut machine.  I cut some orange cardstock for the rest of the flip mechanism and put it together with the patterned paper.

Next I sponged the edges of the fall paper with brown ink.  I then cut 3 rectangles out of green patterned paper and 3 rectangles out of orange patterned paper.  This die is included in the Triple Flip set.  I sponged around those edges as well.

The next step was to glue all of the rectangles onto the flip mechanism.

Now that I had the flip portion created, I needed goodies to decorate it all up.  I chose to use the squirrel die from the Karen Burniston Woodland animals set.  I cut the squirrel out of dark gray cardstock, his belly out of light gray and added the face and ear details.  The acorn I cut out of light brown and just colored the top with a dark brown marker.  I tucked the acorn into his paws.

Isn't he just the cutest?  I cut out several more elements using the dies included in the set as well as some extra things.  I cut out stitched leaves dies from Lawn Fawn, colored a pumpkin from the Pick of the Patch stamp set, used the fall word die from the Karen Burniston Autumn word set, and the word happy from the same Pick of the Patch stamp set.

I did a lot of ink sponging to add more color and texture.  I also used foam tape on some of the elements, added Avocado Liquid Pearls and some fall colored Stickles.

I showed you the completed front at the beginning of the post so now I'll show you the back of the flaps.

Plus a close up look.

And one final photo.  I just wanted to show how this all fits on the card front.  That leaves you the entire inside of the card to add a message!

You should come on over and check out all of our great links!

With Sympathy

Hello from the very cold, very snowy Midwest!  Kristina H. here with not one but TWO sympathy cards to share with you today.  I needed a sympathy card recently and realized I didn't have any in my stash.  Here is what I came up with.

The first card I made was the blue card base with the blue sentiment.  I didn't actually intend to make two cards but I just couldn't let the cut out butterfly piece go to waste!

My very first tip is to use the metal shim plate with your die cut machine or whatever they give you for intricate dies.  You definitely need it for the the sentiment die and the butterfly piece.  I tried it without it and lets just say it was a bit of a cluster.

I started by cutting a blue square with the largest square die from the Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Squares.  Next I cut the patterned square with the largest square die from the Elizabeth Craft Designs Dotted Scallop Squares.  I lined up the Amy Designs Sympathy Corner die where I wanted it on the patterned paper and ran it through my die cut machine.

After that I sponged around all the edges of the paper with a matching blue ink.  Then I cut the die out again but this time with a solid, pale yellow cardstock.

I went ahead and glued the patterned paper onto the solid blue square.  Before I glued the yellow die cut piece in place, I went over the opening of the blue paper with a Wink of Stella glitter gloss marker.  I sponged a little yellow ink onto the edges of the butterfly and also added a bit of Wink of Stella.  It is kind of hard to see them in the picture below but they are so sparkly in person!

Next I moved onto the sentiment.  Another tip, use Stick-It adhesive sheets on the back of your cardstock before cutting out these intricate dies.  I totally forgot I had it until I went to make the second card.  That makes it MUCH easier to adhere.  I kinda made a mess with the first one adding liquid ink to the back of the dies.  Ok, the sentiment.  The die I used is With Sympathy from Impression Obsession.  I love their line of sentiment dies.  They are so lovely!

I found a lighter blue cardstock piece and cut the sentiment twice.  I wanted to have just a bit of dimension with the sentiment.  To the die cut I used on top, I sponged a blue ink starting at the bottom and fading out as I worked up towards the top of the die.  Once I was happy with how it looked, I glued the two die cuts together.

Now that I had all of my pieces ready to go, I got to building my card.  I cut a white card base out to make a 5  1/4" x 5 1/4" square.  I glued the blue/patterned layers on top of the card base.  This does cover the entire front of the card base.  Then I added glue to the back of the butterfly sympathy die cut and put in place.  I then added glue to the back of the sympathy sentiment and glued it down.  For a final extra touch I added three dots of Crystal Stickles.

Now I was left with the patterned paper butterfly die cut piece.  I still had all of my cardstock out so I thought I'd just go ahead and make a second card.  Same but different!

This time I cut the stitched square out of the yellow cardstock.  I did sponge around the edges with a yellow ink.  Then I cut out a piece of the blue cardstock with the dotted scallop sqaure.  I felt it was going to be a little plain so I second generation stamped a background with the matching blue ink.  I sponged blue around all of the edges.  I went ahead and glued it onto the yellow square.

This time I didn't die cut the butterfly out of the blue paper.  I just glued the patterned piece directly onto the blue paper.  I cut the same sentiment out using a cream colored cardstock.  I only cut it one time.  I did remember to use the Stick-It adhesive on the back of the cream cardstock before cutting out the sentiment.  For the finishing touch on this card I added three dots of Buttermilk Nuvo drops.  That's it!

I love how these look similar but different.  The second card went together much quicker than the first card.

Here is a close up picture of them both.
