It's a Mickey Christmas

Hello and welcome back DRU friends.
Lena here today to share a Christmas card I made with Mickey Mouse, my favourite character of all time!

I started by cutting Mickey and Minnie in black as the base to build up my characters.

Then I cut them again in red, white and green.

Here is a quick pic showing you how I cut out the pieces and paper pieced them together.

Now, if you have a steady hand and enjoy colouring, you can just cut one layer in white and then colour the various sections of the die. I tried, but I much prefer the die paper pieced version.  You could also cut out the little pieces, colour them and paper piece them, but I figured, if I was to do that then I would just cut out additional layers in the different colours :-)  I took the left over white pieces of his face and shoes and coloured them using E00 for his face and Y17 and Y38 for his shoes.

Here is Minnie Mouse to give you an idea of the paper pieced version, on the left, and the coloured version which is on the right. I feel that the version on the left is a lot sharper.  I again used E00 copic marker to colour Minnie's face.  I'm planning on using Minnie on another card with this same background die.

Now to tell you about the background of this card.  I used Jeanine's Art Christmas Tree Frame die and cut it out in white.

I wanted a little green behind my tree, so taking a pencil I traced the outer openings onto a piece of green cardstock.  I then took my cutterbees and trimmed it just on the outside of the markings and adhered it to the back of the base die.

I also wanted to add a little colour to the top right hand corner, so I used YG63 and coloured the little cutout flourishes and then paper pieced them back using glassy accents as my glue.

I adhered red sequins and little yellow stars to the tree and using some flower soft I gave Mickey's had some texture.  Now he looks more like Santa :-). I used Wink of Stella pen on all the stars and the ribbons of the presents to give it a little Christmas sparkle.

I also stitched the circle for a little extra interest. I stamped my sentiment using Versafine Black Onyx ink.
I then adhered the whole thing to a 5.5" x 5.5" white card.

On the inside I stamped my sentiment and added a few extra yellow stars for good measure :-)

Now for a recap of the dies I used:
