Colorful Love Card

I have SO many patterned paper pads; I buy them with good intention, but then they end up sitting in my stash, forgotten.  It was actually the background paper that inspired me to get a bit tropical for this card, I hope you like it!

What I Used to Make my Card:
White Card Base
Sue Wilson Caribbean Island Collection, St. Kitts, #CED5204
Impression Obsession Love Die, #DIE385B
KaiserCraft Fly Free 6.5" x 6.5" Paper Pad #PP975
Teal Blue Card

One of the best things about Sue Wilson dies is that you get so many options in one package! Using the St. Kitts die I started this card by cutting out the background in the patterned paper, then the outline in the teal blue, I continued with the patterned paper and then layered the teal blue onto that.  There is also

a pink paper in the paper pad that has epoxy detail and it since it's from the same pack, it matched the patterned paper so that is what I cut the sentiment out of.

You may not know that the Dies R Us challenge is always Anything Goes with a die that they carry - and they carry LOTS of dies so it should be easy to enter! All of the links are below so you can easily find the store and then the challenge! Thanks so much for stopping by! Christi

Slimline Sea Life Scene

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Lisa here with a oceanic slimline card!  These are my favorite cards to make right now, I just can't get enough of the slimline layout.  This card actually came together completely differently than I intended it to.  Originally it was going to be a shaker card using aqua watercolor-printed acetate instead of clear.  This is going to be a little photo heavy to show how I put everything together.

Here's some close ups to see all the layers and dies I used.

Foil can be hard to photograph, but I just love working with it.  And when paired with glitter cardstock, it just pops.

I picked out the dies I intended to use, both from Paper Rose, one of my favorite companies as of late.  Unfortunately, Coral Circle is out of stock, but the Under The Sea Border is available.

I know the round die is called Coral Circle, but I thought it worked well for seaweed or seagrass as well.  That's the look I was going for when I started to put the card together.  I hit my first snag when I tried to cut the first shaker hole with the Coral die.  The acetate cardstock I was using is kind of brittle, and it cracked in half.

The top piece stuck to the plate of my Big Shot, I needed my paper piercer to dig some of it out. So I decided to put the acetate under the glitter cardstock instead of on top.  I guess I could've layered another piece of clear or even the colored acetate under that and still go with a shaker, but I went with cardstock instead.

I now needed more dies to fill in the space on the card, so I picked these three out.  Creative Expressions Mermaid, Memory Box Mermaid Wonder Frame, and Impression Obsession Mermaids.  I wound up not using the Memory Box die for this particular card.

I started to think the acetate wasn't showing up enough on its own over either the card base of the glitter cardstock, so I added some rainbow holographic foil to back it, slightly offset. I wanted to show both foil pieces by themselves so you could really see not only the detail of the die but that I reverse cut one of them.  I didn't want the coral going in the same direction on both frames.  The acetate didn't show a wrong-or-right side of the die cut, and the foil hid it really well too.  You can hardly tell that the one on the left was cut on the backside of the foil.

I forgot to take a picture of the dies, but I used Tutti Designs Nesting Stitched Circles to cut the glitter cardstock layer.  There's a circle in that set, I think it's the third smallest one, that's just under three inches wide, so it was perfect to layer over the Coral Circle, since it's 3" wide.

This was one of those situations where the more I added to this card, the more I wanted to add.  Fish, starfish, seahorses.  I think with sea life projects, more is more.

Normally when I'm working with tiny die cuts, I put 1/2" Scor Tape on back of the cardstock before cutting it so they're easy to attach to my project.  I wanted this card to have a little more dimension though, so I used Glue Dots instead.  I used the Mini ones and cut some in half or quarters to put under the tiny pieces.  I didn't use adhesive on any of the Coral Circle detailed pieces so that it would move and have dimension.

I hope you find inspiration from this card to create your own sea life themed project.  Have a crafty day! --Lisa

Slimline Confetti Birthday Card

Hi everyone!  Lisa here with a fun and springy slimline birthday card!  I have to say that I was originally going to make this card is more jewel tones, but then we got snow in April and I was like, SPRING!  I made the focal layer of my card out of scraps, believe it or not.

So I started out with all these scraps from some baby cards I made for a friend.  You can't really tell in the photo but they're pastel shimmery card stock, not too heavyweight, so they're perfect for layering and then die cutting.

The strips vary in size from about an eighth of an inch to maybe five eights of an inch.  You can use any size for this technique, I just like the look of different sizes.  I'm going to be cutting this background with my Catherine Pooler Slimline Flurries die.  I wanted to use this because a) I love this die and don't just wanna use it at Christmastime and b) I totally think it looks like confetti!  This background is rather detailed, so I used a very lightweight (65lb) white cardstock to build my background on.  I cut it slightly bigger than my die, 8.75" by 3.75", and covered it with 1/2" Scor Tape.

You can see where I wrinkled the tape on the end, but it won't matter because the whole thing will be covered in cardstock and then die cut.  I feel like die cutting helps to push the paper into the tape.

I kept every single dot that I punched out of this background and the die.  I want to use them for a shaker card in the future.

I cut my Impression Obsession Happy Birthday die out of silver glitter cardstock that has 1/2" Scor Tape on the back so it's already adhesive.  Love love love my Scor Tape!  I layered foam tape behind the die cut panel before adhering it to some silver glitter cardstock.  I like how the silver behind the stripes almost gives a faux shaker look.

So these balloons were a last minute addition.  I forgot to take a photo of the die cutting but I used the Lawn Fawn Outside In Balloons die set for these.  I used the smallest balloon and both strings, then added the largest bow.  I didn't put Scor Tape on the back of the balloons because I wasn't sure if I was going to pop any of them up with foam tape or not, but I did put it on the rose gold foil I used for the strings and bow.  Made adhering those teeny tiny strings a breeze.

I hope this inspires you to dig through your scraps and see what kind of backgrounds you can create.  Have a crafty day!  --Lisa

Autumn Skies and Pumpkin Pies

The best part of Thanksgiving is the smell of fresh baked pumpkin pie.

Welcome everyone to a wonderful autumn / Thanksgiving card tutorial.  We are coming upon my favorite time of the year.  I have to say that my husband has vocalized his love of thanksgiving being his favorite season because of the food.  At my house a put on  a full on feast.  I guess the saying is true that the way to a man's heart is though his stomach.

As I was searching through the Dies R Us I found a cute pie from Impression Obsession that just fed into my whole Fall food obsession.  I decided this would make a beautiful card in conjunction with some lawn fawn dies.

Supplies:

Grey Cardstock
Pink Watercolor Cardstock
White Vellum
Broken China Distress Oxide
Brown & White Twine
Glue Tape
Double Sided Tape
1/4" Foam Tape
Versafine Clair Ink Pad - Nocturne
Clear Hero Arts Embossing Powder

________________________________________________

Let the craft begin!

To begin I made an A2 card base.  I do this by cutting a letter size piece of cardstock and cut it at 5 1/2" along the 11" side.  Then fold in half and burnish.  I then cut a piece of kraft cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5".

Using the largest of the Fancy Scalloped Stackable Dies I die cut a brown print cardstock from the Echo Park Celebrate Autumn Collection as well as a 1 1/2" of burlap print cardstock to make an edging.  I adhered the edging to the right side of the brown cut out.  Using 1/4" foam tape I adhered this down to my card base.

I then proceeded to die cut an aqua cardstock from the same collection using the second larges of the Fancy Scalloped Circle Dies.  I also die cut a piece of white cardstock with the second larges of the Large Dotted Circle Dies and adhered to the aqua cut out using liquid glue.

At first I wanted to add ribbon to this, but thought it would be fun to make some lops on the back of the cut out using twine.  I did this by making a square of 1/8" double sided tape on the back of the scallop cut out and then looping the twine in a figure eight on the back side.

Using 1/4" foam tape I adhered this down onto my  card base on the upper right side.  I wanted everything to be balanced towards the right of the card.

For the pie, I used the Impression Obsession, Small Love Pie Die to make the main image for my card.  For the pie tin I used grey  cardstock (mine happened to have a metallic sheen to it), kraft cardstock for the crust, pink watercolor cardstock for the heart and vellum for the steam tendrils.  Adhere the curt and tin together with liquid glue.  Using foam tape I popped the pie and heart onto the scalloped piece.  For the steam I used Broken Chine Distress Oxide to give the bellum some color.  I used a glue tape runner to adhere the vellum steam down.

For the sentiment I used the Thanks, Thanks, Thanks stamps from Lawn Fawn.  There is a handwriting thanks that I selected and a small sentiment of give that I decided to use.  I stamped this down onto cardstock with Nocturne Versafine Clair.  Using a clear embossing powder I heat sent the sentiment.  I then die cut the thanks with the corresponding dies.  I then cut the give out to be about 1/4" high and then around 4" long with a perpendicular cut. The two were set at the bottom of the card as depicted below.

The finished product will look like.  This is the beautiful card with lots of lovely details and yet simple to make.  The lovely printed paper give this card such a warm feel to it.
