Hello, Dies R Us friends! Monday already? Sheesh! It’ll be
Christmas again before you know it. I hope you’re all having a happy new year
so far!
I’ve made another anniversary card today, rolling along on a card order. This almost looks like I photographed it in black and white, but,
actually, I was in the mood for soft neutrals and this is what came about. The
birds are a new-to-me die: Tattered Lace Oriental Blue Bird. So pretty! I found it when
searching “bird” on Dies R
Us. I teamed it up with my Sue Wilson Gemini Orion border and some pretty paper, a bow,
and pearls.
The birds were cut in SU!’s Sahara Sand – gray with a tint of
green – and, really, a perfect match with the designer paper and the ribbon. To
deepen the color of the die cut I went over it with a Sahara Sand marker after
it was cut, then layered over two more cuts for dimension.
Orion is a three die set – the decorative border and a separate
die for each edge. For the first layer of white I used the decorative cut and
the lower edge. The top layer of white uses only the upper edge die. Any one
of these dies will give a pretty cut all on its own, but together they’re
exquisite. The photo below shows the inside where I used all three dies
together to cut a stand-alone border from the designer paper.
A new challenge began New Year’s Day on the Dies R Us Challenge
Blog. The theme is “Something New” – your interpretation. Several of the
team made baby cards, so you see where you can go with that. See below for a summary of supplies. Have a happy day!

the Heart Paper: Neenah Classic White, Graphic 45 Botanical

Let It Snow!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Darlene with you today.
Is it or has it been snowing at your house?
I
know my mid West and North West friends have seen a little (or a lot)
of the white stuff so far. But here in N.E. Ohio it has been
unseasonably warm and NO SNOW for Christmas this year. Of course, with
that being said, Lord only knows what the New Year will hold for us in
snow amounts! Either way, now that my holiday traveling is over, I'm
saying LET IT SNOW! LOL!
That's one
of the perks of being retired ... you can just sit in front of the
fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and watch it come down ... can
pick & choose when to venture out into the elements! LOL
Dies I have used on today's card are:
After die cutting my Taylored Expressions die of white card stock, I adhered it to a medium blue card stock panel. THEN
I changed my mind on my design idea so fussy cut around the image with
my trusty swivel craft knife. It worked out fine since it helped set
the town image off from the white snowbank in the background. Don't you
love it when mistakes turn into great results?
My
dark background panel is from a sheet of DCWV 12x12 paper that was left
over from a school project I was helping the neighbor girl with before
the holidays began. (Yep trying to do a little 'clean up' while I'm
creating!)
A
white gelly roll pen was used to make additional snow in the background
and the 'town die cut' was popped up with Recollections thick pop
dots. Love the added dimension it gave my wintry scene.
Did you see there's a new challenge beginning today at our Dies R Us Challenge Blog? The theme is 'SOMETHING NEW'. We hope you'll come join in the fun and I look forward to seeing your NEW creations!
Till next time . . .

Sending Happy Thoughts
As much as I love the 'holidays'
it sure seems good to make just 'ordinary' cards again..
but I do love those Christmas dies I was able to use...so fun!
But today I have another fun die I was just 'itching' to try!
Frantic Stampers Tumbling Blocks.
I cut it twice, once from green card stock
and a second time from blue card stock.
You can achieve many different designs with this die
by using a variety of colors and arrangements...
making this a very fun die to work with!.
I adhered the blue frame over a piece of polka dot designer paper,
then used the cut out pieces from the green card stock
to 'piece in' where I wanted them.
I stamped a Flourish's stamp with SU Night of Navy,
then cut it out with Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles.
For a bit of elegance, I added a bow made from
Really Reasonable Ribbon
Really Reasonable Ribbon
topped with a Rose and a few navy pearls.

With that being said, I created this card with you in mind.
This card is my expression of

Hey, hello!
Hello to you on this first Monday after Christmas! I hope you all had a lovely
holiday and will continue to enjoy the beautiful season right into the new
year. I love it when things settle down after Christmas. The world outside my
door seems to be a bit frenzied the closer it gets to Christmas. More traffic,
stores crowded. Even the holiday light displays seem to blink brighter and
faster. Saturday was so quiet on the streets. Amazing.
I made today’s cards in that busy week leading up to Christmas when, more than anything, I needed the peace and quiet of clean and simple. I can’t settle on any one style. I love them all. I sat down with two stamp sets, two die sets, one designer paper pad, kept to a theme, and started creating. The first in blue with the critters stamped in Charcoal Color Box chalk ink:
The stamp sets are new to me, Inkadinkado “Cats” and “Dogs”. I couldn’t decide which to use first, so I put the two together and love how they paired up, especially with my Paper Smooches Hello Words for the sentiments. Fabulous, fun script on these with five dies in the set. I’ve also used Paper Smooches Hearts – a practical set of five hearts plus a heart border. Very versatile and useful. The next card is in brown with the critters stamped in Chestnut Roan chalk ink:
The image panels are popped up. The die cuts are layered for dimension – designer paper onto white, then onto a darker cut for shadowing. The designer paper is Simple Stories Snap Color Vibe. Finally, I’m back to Charcoal chalk ink again, this time with pink:
I can’t wait to see what everyone’s stamping now that Christmas is over. Just a reminder to check the DRU Challenge Blog, too. There’s always a challenge and a chance to win! See you again soon!

One Little Baby
Merry Christmas Eve to you!!
Celebrating Christmas is all about a baby being born!
It just so happens that at Dies R Us a new baby boy
was born to the Dies R Us family as well!
Being a mother to a son born in December I know how
special it is to have a December baby...the best Christmas present ever!!
I decided to make a baby card to celebrate the occasion!
I used one of my very favorite embossing folders,
Quilt Blocks by Darice .
I embossed two panels, one in white and one in blue.
I cut the blue panel apart and paper pieced every other
quilt square blue.
A bit of rick rack was added to slightly separate the squares.
I stamped my sentiment onto Spellbinders Lace Hearts.
These are no longer available here, but if you just type
in the word 'hearts' in the search column,
eight pages of hearts will appear...wow!!
I used Impression Obsession Sailboats,
cutting it 3 times.
Once from a white craft foam to build on,
once from a blue paper and once from a striped,
then it was all paper pieced together.
To finish, I simply added a few blue sequins for a bit of 'bling'!
Don't forget to visit our 'sister' blog which is our Dies R Us challenge blog
and full of inspiration as well as a challenge for 'you' to join in
and a chance to win a prize!
Have a very Merry Christmas!!

Celebrate!
Merry Christmas, everyone!
Can you believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve? Time rushes past faster & faster every year! By now, I'm sure everyone is busy doing last minute things to get ready for the big day & you may not have a lot of time to work on your cards. If you still need a quick card for that someone special, this is an easy one to create. The digi is from Sassy Cheryl and colors quickly. I used only 3 dies: Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Oval Stackables, Poppy Stamps Holiday Winterberries & Memory box Stitched Star Layers. If you are pressed for time, you could go with the stitched oval & still have a darling card.
Since this is my last post before Christmas, I want to thank everyone for stopping by each week and to wish you all the most blessed of holidays! MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
