Coloring Your Embossing Folder Cards

Ann here with a cool way to color in your cards after you've embossed them with an embossing folder.
I chose to use several different mediums on my card today.

I started off embossing a white piece of 80 lb card stock with the Darice Greens Sprigs and Berries Embossing Folder from Dies R Us.

When I look for embossing folders that I know I want to color with gilding wax, I look for ones that have a lot of close detail so when rubbing on the gilding wax, I won't be leaving smudges between the embossed areas.  In this case, the pine branches and pine cones were very easy to apply gilding wax to.  However, the lighter green leafy branches are more spread apart, so those were a bit tricky.   Nonetheless, I have some tips below to make this process foolproof.

I used gilding wax on the pinecone embossed areas, the pine branches and the green leafy branches.  I then colored in the centers of the pine cones with a matte gel pen, used an enamel gel pen on the tiny berries on the branches, and used a metallic gel pen on the bigger berries.  The twigs holding the tiny berries were colored with a distress marker.  After the bigger berries were dried, I used a white gel pen to fill in the centers.

After applying the gilding wax to the leafy branches, I covered the smudges with a white gel pen.  Then I applied a coat of Deco Art Gold Glitz Glamour Dust paint over the entire card panel.  This left a glittery shine to the everything on the card,  filled in the white spaces, and covered my smudges.

After the gold glitter paint dried, I didn't want the green pine branches or larger berries to have the gold glitter on them, so I went over both with metallic gel pens.
